The Sunburn.
burning her, steadily.
Poet’s Note:
This poem belongs to the moment captured in this painting. We got swept away in the wind, our bodies anchored to eachother’s flesh, into the heart of danger. I was driven into him like a flame to oxygen, blindly and instinctively. Oftentimes, I felt powerless in his touch, but he pulled me in closer with each withdrawal, he was the refuge and the ruin. I ran with him to the woods, though the storm kept warning me. I was reckless, burning. This love was never soft, it was surrender. I was blinded by his poison-dreamy eyes and went wherever he took me. He had the power to walk me off a cliff, if he wanted to, but he kept me instead, and that caused more damage than what the fall could ever do…
Scarlet letters,
underneath the mattress,
tell no one-
be gone by the minute.
Past the door,
led a puckish smile;
his daggers found her, backless.
She let his eyes trace her scars.
Let them bleed,
let them drought.
Blindly stepping on his astray;
she will follow them
to the stars.
Chanting those prayers
like a bad habit,
for all she knew,
they would last forever.
‘Cause she smelt the smoke
from miles afar,
Or so her treacherous illusions thought.
Deep in these woods,
she engraves her god;
she kneels
before the choosing of her heart.
A fall
that slips into an ethereal cage,
she knew she wouldn’t be lost for long.
Fault isn’t hers to love him so,
for when she had fallen like ashes,
forsaken
at the feet of the cold,
He ran after her,
tore open her flesh,
To claim her forfeited gold.
She fears not;
every time he leaves,
‘he’ll find a road that leads to me.’
Her sacred tears were kissed upon
his flesh,
seeking her sanity.
‘Be brave, be wise, be true’,
said Mum,
every night she puts her to sleep.
She sold her soul
to the whims of his eyes.
‘foolish one’, fate exclaims.
‘Unaware of what’s to come.’
She drifts into dreams,
where he lets himself seep,
burning her, steadily.
